Dudes Dogs and Ducks : A North Dakota Hunting Blog: oct 1st duck hunt (#4)

back to our honey hole for the 4th duck hunt of the year. we went to the same spot as opening day (near valley city) and had another great hunt. it was a breakthrough hunt for joes dog winston as he began to retrieve downed birds. davis and winston almost seemed like they were competing for who could retrieve more. joe told me his pride was second only to when his kids were born when winston made the long goose retrieve. the ducks are starting to get their colors which makes hunting them much more fun (notice the drake mallards in the front row of the photos). pheasant opens next weekend so we are looking forward to some nice combo hunts!!!
